Underground Downspout Drains in Elkhorn City, KY

Underground Downspout Drains in Elkhorn City, KY

An underground downspout drain takes water from the bottom of the downspout and carries it through buried pipe to a spot well away from the house. It is the cleanest way to stop a downspout from soaking the soil next to your foundation, and nobody trips over an extension.

The usual setup is a downspout adapter into 4-inch PVC or corrugated pipe, buried a few inches to a foot deep with a steady fall, ending at a pop-up emitter in the lawn. The pop-up stays shut when dry and opens when water pushes up from below. Smooth-wall PVC costs more than corrugated but resists clogging and crushing, and it is easier to clear with a drain snake later.

Elkhorn City, KY Gutter Installation crews in Elkhorn City, KY check the grade before digging. The line needs a slope all the way to the outlet, or water sits in the pipe and freezes in cold months. Where there is no downhill run, a dry well or a connection to a curb outlet may be the answer, depending on what the city allows.

A clean-out fitting near the downspout makes future service much easier.

Underground drains pair well with new gutter installation and gutter guards, which keep debris out of the buried pipe. Call (833) 941-1503 to plan underground downspout drains in Elkhorn City, KY.
